Hollywood icon Denzel Washington has revealed that he no longer watches movies, including his own, after spending more than four decades in the film industry. The veteran actor admitted he feels burnt out from his long and celebrated career.
Speaking in a recent GQ interview, Denzel Washington said he has stepped away from watching films altogether. “I don’t watch movies, man. I really don’t. I’m just being honest with you. I don’t go to the movies. I don’t watch movies. I’m tired of movies,” he said. When asked how many movies he has been in, Washington responded, “Too many. I think 50.”
Washington began his film career in 1981 with Carbon Copy and has since starred in more than 50 films. He has earned widespread acclaim and two Academy Awards, winning Best Supporting Actor for Glory in 1989 and Best Actor for Training Day in 2001.
Despite his many achievements, Washington has made it clear that awards are not his focus. In an interview with Jake’s Takes, he said he does not act for the sake of winning Oscars. “There are times I won and shouldn’t have, and times I didn’t win and should’ve. Man gives the award. God gives the reward," he said.
