This expansion is projected to boost passenger numbers by 10%

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to expand dedicated bus and taxi lanes, adding six new lanes spanning 13 kilometres. This expansion will bring the total length of dedicated lanes to 20 kilometres. Meanwhile, RTA also noted that 188 million riders used the bus service in the emirate last year, indicating an 8% growth compared to 2023.

This expansion is projected to boost passenger numbers by 10%, shorten bus arrival times by 42%, and cut journey times by 41%. Currently, the emirate's bus network spans roughly 88%, with 1,390 buses operating 11,000 trips daily and covering around 333,000 kilometres. RTA also highlighted that the on-time arrival of buses exceeds 77%. In the past year, RTA introduced nine express bus routes, nine metro link routes, and four new taxi routes serving high-demand areas. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated that the agency's drive to expand the use of smart systems and artificial intelligence in the public bus service has enhanced the efficiency of Dubai’s mass transit network.
