Speculation about the Moon landing being faked has circulated for decades

NASA has dismissed Kim Kardashian’s recent comments questioning the authenticity of the 1969 Moon landing, reaffirming that the mission indeed took place. In the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kim told co-star Sarah Paulson that she believed the Moon landing “didn’t happen.”

NASA’s acting administrator, Sean Duffy, quickly responded on X, saying, “Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before — six times!” He added that NASA is preparing to send astronauts around the Moon in 2026 under the Artemis II mission, a 10-day trip leading up to a landing the following year.

Kardashian’s remarks referenced a viral video of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, now 95, which she appeared to misinterpret. In the clip from a 2015 Oxford Union talk, Aldrin was asked about the “scariest moment” of the Apollo mission and replied, “It didn’t happen — it could have been scary,” meaning the mission was not frightening, not that it never occurred.

Speculation about the Moon landing being faked has circulated for decades, but the Institute of Physics says “every single argument claiming that NASA faked the Moon landings has been discredited,” noting that Apollo missions brought back 382 kilograms of lunar rock as physical proof.
