Sharjah Establishes First Solar Plant With 60 Megawatts Capacity
|As Sharjah's largest plant, it stands out as the first to use renewable energy for the oil and natural gas facilities in the emirate.
Sharjah's first solar power plant, named 'Sana', was unveiled on Wednesday. This new facility, located next to the Sajaa Gas Plant, covers 850,000 square meters and can produce 60 megawatts of energy. The project was developed with the support of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC).
The facility will be able to produce clean energy that would be enough to power about 13,780 homes each year. This reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 66,000 tons annually. According to Emirates News Agency, the plant features 13,000 flexible poles that can move to follow the sun's path, maximising energy collection. Over 98,000 solar panels are mounted on these poles, collectively harnessing solar power efficiently.
As Sharjah's largest plant, it stands out as the first to use renewable energy for the oil and natural gas facilities in the emirate. It is also one of the first plants in the world designed to not only supply its own electricity needs but also to export any extra power it generates.
