In a move to ensure equitable and transparent employment practices for domestic workers, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) of Saudi Arabia has introduced an innovative initiative. The initiative focuses on improving the contractual relationship between employers and domestic workers, offering clarity and guidelines regarding the termination of employment in case of work interruption.

According to a statement released by the ministry, the initiative outlines specific procedures for unilaterally terminating the employment contract if a domestic worker discontinues work. The regulations aim to provide a fair and structured framework that takes into consideration the rights and responsibilities of both employers and domestic workers.

Under the new initiative, if the employer decides to terminate the employment contract due to work interruption by the domestic worker within two years from the worker's entry into the Kingdom, it is mandated that the worker must leave the Kingdom within 60 days. This adherence to the specified timeline is crucial as it ensures compliance with residency and work regulations.

For cases where the contract is terminated due to work interruption after two years, the domestic worker must either leave the Kingdom within 60 days or seek new employment with another employer. Failure to abide by these guidelines will result in the worker being considered in violation of the residency and work regulations.

The implementation of this initiative underscores the Saudi government's commitment to enhancing the protection and well-being of domestic workers, while also providing employers with appropriate measures to address work interruptions.
