Apples First Foldable iPhone To Arrive Next Year: Report

Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with the launch of its first foldable iPhone, expected as early as next year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device unofficially dubbed the iPhone Fold could feature a book-style design with a 5- to 6-inch cover display and an expansive 8-inch main screen when unfolded.

One of the most notable highlights is a crease-free display, a major challenge for existing foldable devices. The iPhone Fold is also expected to feature a dual rear camera setup, including a high-resolution main sensor and a secondary ultra-wide or telephoto lens. Additionally, Apple may include two selfie cameras, one on the cover and another on the inner display.

In terms of biometrics, Apple may opt for Touch ID instead of Face ID to maintain a slimmer profile. The foldable iPhone is said to be under 5mm in thickness, making Touch ID a more practical solution. Connectivity could be powered by Apple’s in-house C2 modem, also expected to debut in the iPhone 17 Air. Notably, the foldable iPhone might exclude a physical SIM card slot, relying entirely on eSIM technology for cellular connectivity.

While Apple has not officially confirmed the device, the increasing number of leaks and insider reports suggest development is well underway. If these features materialise, the iPhone Fold could redefine Apple’s product lineup and set new benchmarks in the foldable segment, bringing direct competition to Samsung, Google, and other foldable leaders currently dominating the market.
