The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has been released, offering a sweeping glimpse into the legendary journey of Odysseus. Matt Damon stars as the battle-worn hero, whose long and dangerous return home begins after the fall of Troy. The trailer opens with striking visuals of a bearded Damon setting out on his voyage, his voice underscoring the moment: “After years of war… no one could stand between my men and home… not even me.” Brief appearances by Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope follow.

Much of the footage is set at sea, anchoring the story in Odysseus’ relentless struggle to survive the journey. The visuals stress endurance and isolation, showing the hero and his men battling unforgiving waters, harsh landscapes and repeated shipwrecks. In one notable sequence, Odysseus and his companions are seen inside the Trojan Horse, confirming that the fall of Troy forms part of the film’s opening act. Another scene hints at looming danger, as a dark cave and a massive moving shadow suggest creatures yet to emerge.

The trailer has drawn an overwhelmingly positive response, a reaction in line with Nolan’s reputation among both critics and audiences. Written and directed by Nolan and produced alongside Emma Thomas, The Odyssey marks a technical milestone as the first feature film shot entirely using IMAX’s largest and newest format. The film is set for release on July 17, 2026.
