Emirates Announces New Rules For Customer Usage Of Power Banks Onboard
Customers are permitted to carry a single power bank with a capacity under 100 watt-hours

Emirates announced that using any kind of power bank is prohibited onboard flights, effective from 1 October 2025. Emirates passengers are still permitted to carry one power bank onboard with specific conditions listed below, but the power banks may not be used while in the aircraft cabin, neither to charge devices from the power bank nor to be charged themselves using the aircraft’s power source.
According to the new rules, customers are permitted to carry a single power bank with a capacity under 100 watt-hours, provided its capacity rating information is clearly visible. However, these devices may not be used to charge personal devices while onboard, nor can they be charged using the aircraft's power supply. In a change to existing storage rules, power banks are no longer allowed in overhead bins and must now be placed in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front of you. These regulations are in addition to the longstanding rule that power banks are not permitted in checked luggage.
The airline noted there has been a significant growth in customers using power banks in recent years, resulting in an increasing number of lithium battery-related incidents onboard flights across the wider aviation industry. Emirates also said that new regulations will significantly reduce risks associated with power banks by prohibiting their use while onboard the aircraft.
