Everything You Need To Know About The Dubai Loop Project
With 11 stations, the projected 17-kilometre tunnel can carry more than 20,000 passengers every hour.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and US-based firm The Boring Company have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to study the implementation of the ‘Dubai Loop’ tunnel project. The announcement regarding the highly anticipated underground transportation system came during the 2025 World Governments Summit (WGS).
With 11 stations, the projected 17-kilometre tunnel can carry more than 20,000 passengers every hour. The project is part of a long-term plan to create a citywide loop transportation network. According to the Elon Musk-owned The Boring Company, the Loop System will connect major locations throughout Dubai. With potential speeds of up to 100 mph, the Loop could cut travel time between key points in the emirate to just minutes. Additionally, by utilising electric vehicles within a controlled environment, the project will contribute to Dubai's sustainability goals, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said that the technology used in the loop system offers rapid execution, lower costs than conventional tunnelling methods, and minimal impact on existing infrastructure and road networks. The Dubai Loop will be similar to the Vegas Loop, which started transporting passengers in EVs through tunnels in 2021. Vegas Loop is currently under development and has been entitled for 104 stations and 110 kilometres of tunnel.
