Meta Introduces New Standalone AI App

Facebook parent Meta Platforms has introduced a separate app for its Meta AI assistant. With the new app, Meta aims to increase the usage of its AI assistant, in addition to its availability on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. It also highlights Meta's ambition to rival OpenAI and Google in the AI sector.
The Meta AI app features a Discover feed, a place to share and explore how others are using AI. Additionally, it is powered by Llama 4, Meta's newest large language model. "Meta AI is built to get to know you, so its answers are more helpful. It’s easy to talk to, so it’s more seamless and natural to interact with," said the company in a blog post. The tech giant also noted that the app will integrate with Meta’s AI glasses and merge with the existing companion app.
Meta finance chief Susan Li reported in January that Meta AI had roughly 700 million monthly active users, according to CNBC. Meta's launch of a stand-alone Meta AI app puts it in line with Google and Elon Musk's xAI, which have both recently launched their own digital assistant apps, Gemini and Grok, respectively.
