Meta To Add Passkey Support For Facebook
By using passkeys, users no longer need to depend on username and password combinations

Meta is rolling out passkeys on Facebook for mobile devices. Passkeys offer a more secure login experience, using Face ID, Touch ID, a PIN, or a physical security key for authentication instead of traditional passwords. The social networking company announced that the feature will soon be available on iOS and Android mobile devices and will be available in Messenger in the coming months.
"Passkeys make it simpler and safer than ever to sign in to Facebook with the same fingerprint, face or PIN you already use on your mobile device to verify your identity," said Meta in a blog post on June 18. "Passkeys can give you peace of mind about your account’s security – they can’t be guessed or easily stolen," the company added.
By using passkeys, users no longer need to depend on username and password combinations, which are prone to phishing and other issues. Apart from logging in, users can also use their passkey to securely autofill payment information when making purchases using Meta Pay. Notably, users can still log in with their password on Facebook or Messenger, even if they have set up a passkey.
