Plastic Glove Found In Sandwich Ordered Online; Zomato Reacts
The incident has sparked wider concern among customers regarding hygiene standards in restaurants

A Noida resident was shocked to find a disposable plastic glove inside a sandwich he ordered via Zomato, raising serious concerns over food safety and hygiene standards. Satish Sarawagi, who placed his order through food delivery platform Zomato on August 28, shared photos on social media showing the glove partially wrapped inside the sandwich. The meal was ordered from a Noida-based restaurant chain.
Satish posted on X, “I ordered a sandwich and found a glove inside the food! This is unacceptable and a serious hygiene concern. Please investigate and respond ASAP.” In a follow-up post, he added, “It was scary, we are still shocked. No action by ZomatoCare yet.”
Zomato responded publicly, expressing regret and concern over the incident. “Hi Satish, we’re absolutely shocked to hear about this. We can’t begin to imagine how upsetting this must have been for you. Please allow us some time to take this up with the restaurant partner. We’ll reach out to you shortly,” the company replied.
Shortly after, the restaurant issued a formal response, acknowledging the issue and stating that an internal investigation had been launched by its quality assurance team. The specific kitchen responsible for preparing the order has been flagged for urgent review. “We’re taking this matter extremely seriously. A full investigation is underway, and we have flagged the kitchen for immediate inspection. We request the customer to share their contact details privately so we can address the matter directly and ensure it is properly resolved,” the restaurant said in a statement.
The incident has sparked wider concern among customers regarding hygiene standards in restaurants, particularly those offering home delivery. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which was also tagged in the post, has not yet responded to the matter.
