WhatsApp Rolls Out AI-Powered Message Summaries

Meta has added an AI-powered summaries feature on WhatsApp. The new option uses Meta AI to privately and quickly summarise unread messages in a chat. It is to be noted that this summary would only be visible to you, not others in your chat. Currently, the feature is rolling out to US users with English language support. Meta is considering launching this update in more countries and languages later this year.

The company said that the tool uses private processing technology, which allows Meta AI to generate a response without Meta or WhatsApp ever seeing user messages or the private summaries. Meta also said that AI message summaries are optional, and the feature is turned off by default. "You can choose whether or not to use them, and can use Advanced Chat Privacy to select which chats can be shared for AI features," Meta added.
