Malayalam cinema legend Sreenivasan died on Saturday at the age of 69. The passing of Sreenivasan brings a significant chapter of Malayalam cinema to a close. Across a career of almost five decades, he became one of the industry’s most respected figures, leaving a lasting impact through his keen social insight, heartfelt storytelling, and humour that spoke to real-life issues. In addition to acting, Sreenivasan made his mark as a screenwriter, director, and producer.

Sreenivasan made his acting debut in Manimuzhakkam in 1976. He appeared in more than 225 films and penned several of the most memorable screenplays in Malayalam cinema. His screenwriting legacy includes beloved Malayalam films such as Njan Prakashan, Sandesam, Oru Maravathoor Kanavu, Udayananu Tharam, Midhunam, Varavelpu, Thalayana Manthram, Mazhayethum Munpe, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Katha Parayumpol, Azhakiya Ravanan, Pattanapravesham, Odaruthammava Aalariyam, and Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam. Sreenivasan's work earned widespread recognition, including a National Film Award and several Kerala State Film Awards.
