Liam Rosenior has been appointed as the head coach of Chelsea on a long-term contract. The Englishman took over at French club Strasbourg in 2024 after managerial spells at Hull City and Derby County. The 41-year-old had flown down to London this week to hold meetings with the Chelsea hierarchy. The meetings went well, and Rosenior was named as the successor for outgoing Enzo Maresca.

The former Hull City manager took over Strasbourg in July 2024. He helped them finish seventh in the Ligue 1 table last season. They currently sit seventh in the table with 24 points in 17 matches and are at the top of the Conference League. Even though Strasbourg are currently enduring a five-game winless streak, they have had a pretty decent season. Their notable performance came against PSG, holding the European champions to a 3-3 draw.

During his time with Hull City and Derby County, Rosenior managed to achieve 35% and 58% win percentages, respectively. He is taking on a Chelsea side who are amidst a disturbed form, winning only twice in the previous seven games. Callum McFarlane led the Chelsea team on Sunday against Manchester City, where they managed to earn a point at the Etihad. As per the reports, the 41-year-old would be in the dugout for their FA Cup match against Charlton on Sunday. This means the midweek derby against Fulham would again see McFarlane in the dugout.

Rosenior's Chelsea would be facing a rush of eight matches in January, with six of them emphatically being London derbies and two being European matches. The EFL Cup semi-final against Arsenal and the European away fixture against Napoli are the toughest of them all.
