Dubai has unveiled the fourth-generation traditional abras, marking a major upgrade to the city’s marine transport network. The newly redesigned abras can now carry up to 24 passengers, an increase from the previous capacity of 20. The upgrades also include enhanced seating and flooring and a more efficient layout with dedicated spaces for people of determination.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has also implemented a range of technological enhancements in the fourth-generation abras. This includes real-time passenger information screens, safety alerts, and digital destination boards. New abras also include compliance with the highest standards of security, safety, and environmental sustainability in marine public transport. According to Dubai Media Office, RTA has secured certifications confirming adherence to the Gulf Standard Specifications for maritime safety regulations.
