Elon Musk Summoned By Paris Prosecutors Following Raid On X Offices
Musk reacted on X, calling the raid a “political attack”.

The Paris prosecutor’s cyber-crime unit carried out a raid at X’s French offices in connection with an ongoing investigation. The case involves allegations of illegal data collection and possible child pornography-related offences. Both Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino have been instructed to appear for questioning on April 20. Musk reacted on X, calling the raid a “political attack”.
French prosecutors launched the probe in January 2025, initially focusing on material recommended by X’s algorithm. In July, the investigation was expanded to include Musk’s controversial chatbot, Grok. Following Tuesday’s raid, prosecutors are now examining potential legal violations by X across several areas. They said the probe covers alleged offences including assisting in the possession and dissemination of child pornography images, generating sexual deepfakes in violation of personal rights, denying crimes against humanity, and illegally extracting data from an automated processing system as part of an organised group. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office announced on X that it will step away from the platform and asked the public to follow LinkedIn and Instagram for future updates.
France and the EU have stepped up efforts to regulate major social media companies, accusing platforms like X, Meta, and TikTok of failing to address illegal content, disinformation, and hate speech. Last week, the European Commission launched a probe into Grok over concerns that it was used to create sexually explicit deepfake images involving women and minors. Last month, the UK media regulator Ofcom also opened a formal investigation into X regarding Grok’s alleged involvement in generating sexualised deepfake material.
