Jolly Rancher Sweets Recalled In UK Over Cancer Concerns
The recall was initiated by the US-based Hershey company, following a food alert issued by the UK's Food Standards Agency

Several Jolly Rancher sweets have been recalled in the UK after concerns were raised over potentially harmful ingredients that may cause DNA damage and increase cancer risk. The recall was initiated by the US-based Hershey company, following a food alert issued by the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA).
According to the FSA, four products – Jolly Rancher Hard Candy, Jolly Rancher 'Misfits' Gummies, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy Fruity 2 in 1, and Jolly Ranchers Berry Gummies – were found to contain mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) and mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH). These compounds, commonly used in confectionery to prevent stickiness and create a glossy appearance, are known to pose health risks when consumed frequently over time.

A spokesperson for Hershey stated the safety of Jolly Rancher was its "first priority", though it could not always ensure that the products produced in the US always meet the requirements of other countries. It has been cooperating with the UK government to remove the affected products from the UK markets since 2024. However, the company noted that some independent importers have continued distributing the items illegally. Hershey is now urging the authorities to take immediate action to prevent further sales and advised consumers to buy only from established UK retailers to "ensure product integrity and compliance".
