UAE Launches AI Curriculum In Public Schools Starting From 2025-2026 Academic Year

The UAE's Ministry of Education has announced the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) as an official subject in the public school curriculum for kindergarten to Grade 12. The subject will be rolled out starting from the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative makes the UAE one of the first globally to include AI in its school curriculum.

The AI curriculum spans seven key areas, including foundational concepts, data and algorithms, software use, ethical awareness, real-world applications, innovation and project design, and policies and community engagement. For every age group, the curriculum provides customised units, beginning with kindergarten, where AI and digital concepts are introduced through engaging visual and interactive experiences like stories and play.

According to Emirates News Agency report, in Cycle 1, students compare machines to humans, develop digital thinking skills, and explore AI applications. In Cycle 2, they design and evaluate AI systems, learn about bias and algorithms, and focus on ethical AI use. Cycle 3 readies students for university and jobs through command engineering instruction and real-world simulations. Notably, the new AI learning will be integrated within existing school schedules without requiring additional teaching hours.
