VS Achuthanandan, Former Kerala CM, Dies At 101

VS Achuthanandan, veteran CPM leader and former Kerala Chief Minister, died on Monday. He was 101. Achuthanandan, a prominent figure in Kerala politics, served as Kerala's chief minister from 2006 to 2011. Since June 23, he has been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram.
Popularly known as VS, VS Achuthanandan was elected to the Kerala State Assembly on seven occasions, with three of those terms spent as Leader of the Opposition. He became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) at 44, then took office as Chief Minister in 2006, at 82. He was a member of the CPM Politburo from 1985 until 2009.
