Hyundai Motor Group has announced plans to deploy humanoid robots at its manufacturing facility in the United States starting in 2028. The company unveiled Atlas, a humanoid robot developed by its subsidiary Boston Dynamics, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Monday.

Designed for general industrial use, Atlas is expected to work alongside human employees, handle machines independently and take on physically demanding or hazardous tasks. Hyundai said the robots would help ease the physical strain on workers while expanding the use of advanced technology across its operations. The company did not disclose the cost of the robots.

Hyundai also said it plans to build a facility capable of producing up to 30,000 robot units a year by 2028. As part of its push into advanced robotics, the automaker is partnering with Google’s DeepMind to equip Boston Dynamics robots with more sophisticated artificial intelligence.

The company believes humanoid robots will eventually become the largest segment of the so-called physical AI market — a term used for AI systems embedded in hardware that can gather real-world data and make autonomous decisions. Such systems are already being used in areas like robotics, smart manufacturing and autonomous vehicles.

The Georgia facility where Hyundai plans to test Atlas was previously in the spotlight following a federal immigration raid last year that resulted in the detention of hundreds of workers, including more than 300 South Korean nationals. Those workers were later released after an agreement between Washington and Seoul.
