Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has been killed in a car crash in Spain. His brother, Andre, also died in the crash. According to Spanish media, 28-year-old Jota was travelling in the province of Zamora in the early hours of Thursday morning. Andre was also a professional footballer with the second-tier Portuguese club Penafiel.

The incident comes just weeks after Diogo Jota married his long-term partner, with whom he had three children. He played 182 matches for Liverpool since his 2020 transfer from Wolves, netting 65 goals during his time at the club. Jota achieved significant success, securing the Premier League title, FA Cup, and League Cup with Liverpool. With Wolves, he won the Championship title in 2018. Notably, he was also a two-time UEFA Nations League winner with Portugal.

"We have lost two champions. Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything we can to honour their legacy every day," the Portuguese Football Federation said in a statement, as quoted by Reuters. Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident's cause has been launched by police.
