Amazon CEO Says AI Will Shrink Company’s Workforce
Amazon boss noted that the size of this future reduction of workforce is hard to estimate.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to a smaller corporate workforce in the coming years. In a memo to the employees, Amazon boss also noted that the size of this future reduction of workforce is hard to estimate.
"As we roll out more Generative AI and agents, it should change the way our work is done. We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs," Andy Jassy wrote in the memo. "It’s hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company," he added.
The CEO also said that workers should learn how to use various AI tools. The e-commerce giant is the latest firm to reveal its strategy for using AI, as concerns grow worldwide that the technology will cause significant job losses. A recent World Economic Forum survey reportedly indicates that 40% of employers plan to reduce staff in roles where AI can automate tasks.
