Elon Musk Slams Trumps Big Tax Break Bill As Disgusting Abomination

Elon Musk publicly denounced Donald Trump's new policy of tax breaks and spending cuts, calling it a "disgusting abomination", in his recent post on X. The remarks came just days after the billionaire received a ceremonial farewell in the Oval Office, marking the end of his advisory role in the Trump administration.

Musk's post targeted the proposed legislation, dubbed by Trump as the "One Big Beautiful Bill", which seeks to reduce 2017 taxes, introduce new ones, and allocate $350 billion for border security and national defence. The bill is currently under debate in the Congress. The broadside of Musk marks his notable political reversal. In 2024, he funded at least $250 million for Trump's campaign and was subsequently appointed to co-lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory body established by Trump to ensure administration efficiency.

DOGE, which is not a formal federal department, is expected to disband in July 2026. Amid criticism for failing to deliver financial reforms and lacking transparency, Musk recently stepped down from his role. It is in this context that Musk posted on X: “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore, This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it." He further warned Republicans who support the bill, claiming they had "betrayed the American people". Some fiscally conservative Republicans have supported Musk's concerns on the bill, which would possibly curtail funding for electric vehicles and technologies, including the subsidies for Musk's Tesla.
