Google Search AI Mode Arrives In India

Google is rolling out its AI Mode to users in India. The Q&A-style search tool allows users to ask longer and more nuanced questions in the search bar. Google calls AI Mode their most powerful AI search, with more advanced reasoning and multimodality and the ability to go deeper through follow-up questions and helpful links to the web.

The tech giant said in a blog post that this tool is still in the experimental stage, and users will need to opt in to it through Search Labs. "AI Mode uses our query fan-out technique. It breaks your question into subtopics and issues a multitude of queries simultaneously on your behalf, enabling Search to dive deeper into the web than ever before," said the company. Users will also be able to ask follow-up questions to refine results.

"AI Mode is designed to be multimodal so you can ask questions in whatever way feels most natural—whether that's with text, your voice, or by taking or uploading an image," Google added. The AI Mode, backed by Gemini 2.5, currently supports queries only in English. The company has not yet announced plans or timelines for local language integration.
