India's star batter Virat Kohli has reportedly told the BCCI that he wishes to retire from Test cricket. The Indian Express reported that the Indian cricket board has urged Kohli to reconsider the decision. Notably, the development comes just days after Rohit Sharma decided to retire from Test cricket. Meanwhile, India's five-match Test series against England will begin in Leeds on June 20.

“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up," The Indian Express quoted a source as saying. Kohli's retirement from T20Is came after India's triumph in the T20 World Cup held in the West Indies last year.

Virat Kohli's Test debut came in 2011 against West Indies in Kingston. Over his 14-year Test career, the right-handed batsman played 123 Tests, amassing 9230 runs with an average of 46.85. Under Kohli's captaincy in Tests, India won 40 out of 68 matches and lost only 17 before Rohit Sharma took over. India's most successful Test captain is Kohli, with 40 wins, placing him above MS Dhoni (27 wins in 60 games) and Sourav Ganguly (21 wins in 49 games).
