Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new Test captain for Team India. BCCI has also announced the squad for the upcoming five-Test series in England, starting on June 20. Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain of the 18-man squad. The appointment of Gill as captain marks a new era in Indian cricket post the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

"Over the last year, we've looked at Shubman. We've taken feedback from the dressing room as well. And we're hopeful we've picked the right guy," Ajit Agarkar, the selection committee chief, said in a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. Making his Test debut at the MCG during India's 2020-21 Australian tour, Gill has since appeared in 32 Tests. The 25-year-old has scored 1,893 runs in his Test career so far. Meanwhile, a notable inclusion is that of Karun Nair, who last played a Test match for India back in 2017. Karun Nair earned a call-up after an impressive domestic season.
