US President Donald Trump has publicly criticised tech billionaire Elon Musk's launch of a new political party, calling the move "ridiculous" and unnecessary. In the midst of a deepening feud between the two former allies, Musk announced the formation of the "America Party" to challenge the Republican and Democratic "Uniparty."

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said, "It's always been a two-party system and I think starting a third party just adds to the confusion." Following Trump's election victory, Musk had briefly served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), aimed at reducing federal spending.

However, the split between the two reportedly began over Trump's controversial bill, which might increase national debt. The tension escalated after Trump signed the tax and spending plan bill into a law on July 4, which ended the tax breaks for electric vehicles.

Trump also posted on his Truth Social platform on Sunday: "I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a train wreck over the past five weeks." He also reiterated his opposition to Musk's proposal for an EV mandate, saying it would have "forced everyone to buy an electric car in a short period of time."
