Arijit Singh left fans stunned after announcing that he is stepping away from playback singing. In a post shared on January 27, 2026, the singer said he would no longer lend his voice to films, a decision that surprised many given that he is still at the height of his career.

The announcement sparked widespread disappointment, with screenshots of his post circulating rapidly online. Soon after, images of another post, said to be from his private X account, also began to spread. In it, Singh suggested that the decision was not driven by a single reason, but by several factors he had been considering for some time. One of them, he admitted, was boredom. He explained that this was why he often rearranged his songs and performed different versions on stage. At the same time, Singh reassured fans that music would remain central to his life and that he would honour all prior commitments.

Arijit Singh began his film career in 2010 with the Telugu movie Kedi, before entering Bollywood the following year. He first caught wider attention with Phir Mohabbat Karne Chala Hai Dil from Murder 2, sung alongside Mohammed Irfan. His breakthrough came in 2013 with Aashiqui 2, which made him a household name. Since then, he has sung over 800 songs across films and independent releases, shaping the sound of love and heartbreak for more than a decade with tracks like Tum Hi Ho, Laal Ishq, Raabta, Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse, and Aaj Phir.
