Anker Recalls Over 1.1 Million Power Banks
The recall covers 1,158,000 units sold in US between June 2016 and December 2022.
Anker has recalled its PowerCore 10000 power bank (model A1263) due to a “potential issue with the lithium-ion battery”. The issue can cause the battery to overheat, leading to melting of plastic components, smoke, and fire hazards. The recall covers 1,158,000 units sold in US between June 2016 and December 2022.
Customers will be able to identify the affected batteries by the Anker logo on the side and the model number A1263 printed on the bottom edge. "If your unit is confirmed to be part of the recall, please stop using it immediately," said the company on its website. According to US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), Anker has received 19 reports of fires and explosions. This includes two reports of minor burn injuries and 11 reports of property damage totalling over $60,700. Meanwhile, the company noted that it will give consumers the option to either wait for the replacement or get a $30 gift card "if replacements are on back order".
