Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced that he is leaving the United States administration. The world's richest man made this announcement through a post on his social media platform X. An unnamed White House official has confirmed this development with various news outlets.

"As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," Musk wrote on X. "The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government," he added. Reuters, citing a source with knowledge of the matter, reported that Musk did not have a formal conversation with Trump before announcing his exit.

Musk became part of the US Administration in January, aiming to reduce the country's federal budget by at least $1 trillion. During Musk's time in government, his electric car firm Tesla witnessed a significant drop in sales. The first three months of this year saw Tesla's sales fall by 13%, its biggest drop in deliveries ever. Following this, Musk recently told investors that the time he allocates to the Trump government "will drop significantly" and that he would be "allocating far more of my time to Tesla".
