OpenAI Unveils New GPT-5 Model
According to the company, GPT-5 marks a major advancement in intelligence over its earlier models
OpenAI has officially released ChatGPT 5, the latest version of its AI chatbot, introducing upgrades in performance, reasoning, and usability. The model is designed to deliver more accurate, context-aware responses, manage complex queries more effectively, and support a wider range of tasks, including content creation and coding. The good news is that GPT-5 will be available for all users, and for those willing to pay, GPT-5 Pro will be accessible.
The company describes the latest version as their “most intelligent, fastest, and most capable model to date”, delivering expert-level intelligence to users everywhere. While a free tier will be offered, some advanced features and faster access speeds may be limited to paid subscribers. Along with the new model, OpenAI has rolled out a range of upgrades, including better customisation options, an enhanced voice mode, a refreshed user interface, and other improvements designed to make ChatGPT more intuitive and efficient to use. Powered by the GPT-4o (omni) architecture, the new version delivers quicker responses, a deeper grasp of context, and an improved ability to process not just text but also voice, images, and real-time conversations, marking a significant step forward in AI capabilities.
OpenAI has announced that GPT-5 is now available to Plus, Pro, Team, and Free users, giving even those on the free plan access to the upgraded system. Enterprise customers are expected to receive access within the next week. According to the company, paid subscribers will benefit from unlimited usage and exclusive access to GPT-5 Pro. Team, Enterprise, and Edu users will also have the option to make GPT-5 their default model for daily operations.
According to the company, GPT-5 marks a major advancement in intelligence over its earlier models, excelling in areas such as coding, mathematics, writing, healthcare, and visual perception. It can also span when to deliver a quick reply and when to take extra time to craft a more detailed response.
OpenAI also says that GPT-5 outperforms all previous models in benchmarks and provides answers more quickly, while at the same time being more useful and reliable for real-world queries. The company has also worked on reducing hallucinations, improving instruction following and boosting ChatGPT's performance in three key areas: writing, coding and health. When it comes to coding, OpenAI says GPT-5 is its most advanced model yet, capable of creating small games from a single prompt.
The launch comes after months of speculation and testing, marking a new stage in the development of OpenAI’s conversational AI technology. Previously, OpenAI used GPT-4o for general queries, while o3 or o4 mini handled tasks requiring stronger reasoning skills. With the rollout of GPT-5, the model selection option in ChatGPT has been removed, meaning users can no longer choose their preferred model, a change that has sparked frustration on social media.
