Riyadh: The Saudi Ministry of Culture has signed a strategic partnership with SOAS University of London to support the creative and academic development of Riyadh University of Arts (RUA)’s College of Heritage and Civilization Studies. The collaboration aims to advance excellence in heritage education, promote cultural diversity, and foster global academic exchange.

The agreement was formalized during Saudi Arabia’s inaugural Digital Heritage Conference, a national event dedicated to digital preservation and innovation in the heritage sector. The conference was chosen as the venue in recognition of its role as a platform for dialogue on documentary heritage and its alignment with the Kingdom’s commitment to progress in digital preservation and cultural innovation.

Ms. Noha Kattan, Deputy Minister of National Partnerships and Talent Development at the Ministry of Culture, signed the partnership on behalf of Riyadh University of Arts. SOAS University of London was represented by Professor Graeme Earl, Dean of the College of Humanities.

Under this partnership, SOAS will work closely with RUA’s College of Heritage and Civilization Studies to design and deliver advanced academic programs that cultivate expertise in cultural heritage, research methodologies, and interdisciplinary learning.

SOAS—recognized globally for its specialization in the study of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East—is the only university in Europe with this unique regional focus. Its interdisciplinary model blends the humanities, social sciences, and arts, providing a globally informed perspective on cultural, societal, and intellectual traditions.

The new agreement is part of a broader series of partnerships and Memoranda of Understanding being established by Riyadh University of Arts with leading international institutions. These collaborations are designed to expand academic programs, enhance research capabilities, and create meaningful opportunities for cultural education and professional development.

Riyadh University of Arts, announced last September by His Highness Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan AlSaud, Minister of Culture, during the Cultural Investment Conference, is envisioned as a cornerstone institution for creative education and cultural innovation. It aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and vision needed to shape the future of the Kingdom’s cultural sector.

RUA will offer a comprehensive, phased academic framework covering all cultural and artistic disciplines—ranging from short courses and diplomas to bachelor’s, higher diplomas, master’s, and doctoral programs—ensuring continual learning and development opportunities at all levels.

Further details about RUA, its colleges, and its international partnerships will be released with the launch of the university’s official website, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
