Air India Flight With Over 200 Onboard Crashes Near Ahmedabad Airport

An Air India flight, reportedly carrying 242 passengers and en route to London, crashed near India's Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The flight crashed minutes after takeoff. As per the visuals circulating on social media, the crash site at Gujarat's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport was marked by thick plumes of smoke.
"Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025," said the airline in a post on X. "At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.com and on our X handle," Air India added. Meanwhile, DGCA said in an official statement that there were 242 people on board, consisting of 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew, reported The Economic Times. The report also mentioned that the aircraft involved is a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
