Messi Chooses 2009 Champions League Final Header As Favourite Goal

Inter Miami's Lionel Messi said that his most favorite goal is the header he scored for Barcelona against Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final. As part of the A Goal for Life campaign led by the Inter Miami CF Foundation, the goal will now be transformed into a piece of artwork by Refik Anadol and auctioned off for charity.

"I had many goals that are perhaps even more beautiful and of enormous value, also because of their importance, but the header in the Champions League final against Manchester United was always my favorite," the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner said. "I already knew how special Refik Anadol’s work is, and after we had the chance to meet in Miami, it’s going to be exciting to see how he can transform a goal — a moment in sports — into a unique piece of art, like the ones he creates," Messi added.

UEFA has granted the Inter Miami CF Foundation worldwide rights to use images of Messi's goal. Meanwhile, Inter Miami CF Foundation's campaign is set to reveal the artwork on June 11 in New York at Christie's auction house.
