Steve Smith has announced his retirement from One Day International Cricket. Australia's star batter made the decision following his team's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 exit. The 35-year-old will continue to represent Australia in Test cricket and T20 Internationals.

"It has been a great ride and I have loved every minute of it,” said the skipper in a statement to Cricket Australia. "Now is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 World Cup so it feels like the right time to make way. Test cricket remains a priority and I am really looking forward to the World Test Championship Final, the West Indies in the winter and then England at home," Smith added.

The top-order batter appeared in 170 ODIs for Australia and scored 5800 runs at an average of 43.28, including 12 centuries. He was also part of Australia's Cricket World Cup-winning sides in 2015 and 2023. Smith, who made his ODI debut in 2010 against West Indies, has also taken 28 wickets at an average of 34.67.
