Steve Smith Announces Retirement From ODI Cricket
The 35-year-old will continue to represent Australia in Test cricket and T20 Internationals.
Steve Smith has announced his retirement from One Day International Cricket. Australia's star batter made the decision following his team's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 exit. The 35-year-old will continue to represent Australia in Test cricket and T20 Internationals.
"It has been a great ride and I have loved every minute of it,” said the skipper in a statement to Cricket Australia. "Now is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 World Cup so it feels like the right time to make way. Test cricket remains a priority and I am really looking forward to the World Test Championship Final, the West Indies in the winter and then England at home," Smith added.
The top-order batter appeared in 170 ODIs for Australia and scored 5800 runs at an average of 43.28, including 12 centuries. He was also part of Australia's Cricket World Cup-winning sides in 2015 and 2023. Smith, who made his ODI debut in 2010 against West Indies, has also taken 28 wickets at an average of 34.67.
